Dr. Jens-Filip Nycander Stanislawski

Dr. Jens-Filip Nycander Stanislawski is a distinguished senior researcher and consultant specializing in citizenship, human rights, democratic governance, and policy analysis within developing countries, with a particular focus on South Asia. With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Jens has established a reputation for research leadership and strategic insight across academic, public, and private sectors.

Dr. Jens’s expertise in South Asia is exemplified by his extensive work in Bangladesh. He has held pivotal roles with leading national and international organizations, including the United Nations, UNDP, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and Oxford Policy Management. As an Assistant Professor at BRAC University in Dhaka, he led teams of junior researchers, mentoring them in both qualitative and quantitative methods, and fostering academic excellence through structured training in research design and academic presentation. His leadership enabled his teams to achieve publication at the national level and contributed significantly to the development studies landscape in the region.

Throughout his career, Dr. Jens has played a critical role in development research and governance projects, including acting as team leader for the national-level crisis management support team during Bangladesh’s COVID-19 response—a collaboration involving the UN, WHO, and the Government of Bangladesh. He has also provided quality assurance for major urban poverty reduction initiatives, led situation analyses for foreign development agencies, and authored policy reports shaping development strategy and governance reform.

In addition to his academic and research roles, Dr. Jens has extensive experience engaging with senior government officials and donor institutions, supporting project planning, monitoring, and evaluation processes. His work has spanned local government, poverty alleviation, education systems, and local justice and mediation, providing him with a deep understanding of the socio-political dynamics of South Asia.

Currently, Dr. Jens serves as Director of the Afro-Eurasia Center and Professor (Research) in the Department of Development Studies at Daffodil University in Bangladesh. He continues to consult for international organizations, including leading national evaluations of UN projects with Social Resources Management in Sweden and Bangladesh.

Dr. Jens holds a Ph.D. in Democracy and Citizenship from the University of Bath, where his research focused on the evolving dynamics of democratic governance in Bangladesh. He also holds master’s degrees from SOAS University of London and the University of Bath, with a strong foundation in political economy, development, and international studies. Fluent in English and Swedish, Dr. Jens brings a global perspective and local expertise to every project, making significant contributions to the sustainable development and governance discourse in South Asia.
